I noticed in one of the rangers in the F/S forum someones got an over head console out of an Explorer. I have an 04 b2300 and would like to add some more storage so I was thinking of picking up an over head console. Anyone got an ideas on what year explorer would work and any tips on instalation? Thanks in advance for any advice.

the only storage space in the consoles is a small compartment for sunglasses. most people want them more for the clock, lights and thermometer. any year explorer with the console will work, but it isnt really a bolt in install.

actually, it does literally bolt in, it's the wiring that makes it not "really" a bolt-in...

The wring is not that difficult. If you've ever wired a stereo or even a set of auxiliary lights then you have the skill.

What separates the men from the boys is having the guts to carve up your headliner!:haha:

It is well worth the effort and really sets off the interior. I installed the Explorer dual lighted vanity mirrored sun visors at the same time. The factory Explorer pigtail has the bulbs made right into the harness.:icon_cheers:

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posted. I went junkyard hopping today and didn't find many explorers. The ones I did find didn't have a factory over head console or they had already been taken out. So I guess for now this project will be on hold till I can find a console.

There are 2 kinds of OH consoles to look out for. One has a compartment for either a garage door remote or sunglasses, and the other has a control for a sunroof. Most of us have found the first kind more usefull. Make sure you get the wiring harness, the mounting bracket and the temperature sensor that mounts behind the front grill.
