Hello,
I have a 92 ranger xlt, I sucked a piston and now I wont to re-build the engine :icon_confused:. Yes I know a lot of you suggest to replace it with a 5.0L or something close to that but i wont the challenge of getting the most I can out of the stock 4L. So the help I need is I have only ever re-built an engine with stock parts this time I wont to do almost every thing I can to it, but I have know idea what I need/should get. I’m going to do a port and polish on the heads and a custom exhaust and I have the block bored .30 over(not quiet at .30 over yet need the pistons first). So the questions I have are what pistons should I use and what size, is there a good cam that would give me a good power boost at low end and high end. I wont to get lockers in the rear end so what gears would be good (not going rock crawling just some trail riding with lots of mud and water and some bigger tires to do so). Well that’s all I got for now any help would be much appreciated. I will try and get some pic’s up of before and after.

Don't overbore it any more than you have to. The couple cubes you gain won't give you that much more power, and down the road the block may be saved again by boring rather than just chucked because it was already punched out.

Gears depend on the tire size.
