starter problem

i have a 87 ranger 2.9 5spd the starter is hiting the flywheel hard i got a new flywheel and starter 4 it and it does the same thing.. if anyone has any idea plz let me know thanks
 
is your seperator plate between the engine and trans
 
What transmission do you have?
 
when i got the truck someone cut half there so i just took it out

all i know right now is a 5spd how do i tell what one it is ??

There are diff starters for autos and manuals. might be your problem
