When its in 4hi or lo it starts jumping when turning and feels like it wants to drive over the front axle. Do I have a locker or am I facing yet another problem in the front end? Also when goin down the road in 2wd it sound like the gears are spinning and it makes s grinding noise.what is causing this to happen?

Either someone stuck a lunchbox locker in there or you've got a problem. I dont know which, but something tells me you should drop the cover :icon_thumby:

Are these new feelings and noises from before, meaning these are recent and it didn't used to do this or it always has?

What other problems has it had up front?

Could be a hub issue.

I doubt it has a locker though.

It is normal to have some jerking when turning in a tight radius, in 4 wheel drive, on high traction surfaces. Even with an open diff. What kind of terrain were you on?

No cover, he'd have to pull the 3rd off the beam and that's a lot of work or it is possible to maybe see a locker with a flashlight looking through the fill plug hole.

This.

It wasn't even a tight turn I was just makin a small turn in the dirt lot at my house . It jerks quite a bit too.

Also I'm thinking it could be a hub issue but I replaced that whole side and its doing it and the lock nut on the outside of the wheel keeps backing off

i say check it out. see what you can see from the fill plug... but safest bet is to drop the 3rd.. some jerking is normal... i couldn't tell you with out driving it.

Check this side, maybe the nut backed off and that bearing is toast, seized up.

Could it be an axle shaft u-joint?

Richard

I just replaced the bearing on both sides? Is it possible that I got a bad bearing?

Possible, but very unlikely. More likely the preload wasn't set correctly on the spindle inner nut.

Could also be a seized u-joint, check em all out

I am thinking its a ujoint. Because everything else looks fine.
