Hey folks,

I have a 98' 4x4, can the lower ball joints be pressed out or do you have to replace the entire A-arm? I am getting some thumps and other sounds from the front end and I am afraid its the ball joints. Also... Does the entire steering knuckle have to be pulled in-order to replace the ball joints?

Thanks for any pointers,

-Buggyman

Look at my reply in "stock 4x4 and offroad suspensions" in the suspension forum. The thread is entitled "ball joints". You need to have it checked out to see what it is. Although your lower ball joints are probably worn out, broken sway bar links are often missed and cause cracking/knocking noises on bumps. Josh

You have to remove the knuckle and press out the lower ball joint and press in the new one. Just the uppers are replaced as a complete control arm.
