Let me just say that having an overhead electric crane is THE way to do this!

Getting huge hole in the middle for a blower?

Holding your work benchdown because that "little motor" parts won't be needed?

Better than an underhead crane?

I just finished prepping a kickass set of heads for it. I bought a complete gasket and seal set since there were a few leaks that were driving me nuts. I'm on the lookout for a gasket set for the C4 as well. It has a few leaks and I'm sick of looking at the puddle of ATF. Also the cooler lines weren't routed very nicely, so this is my chance to fix that too. There's some wiring that needs to be cleaned up and a couple of little things that I've been meaning to do for a couple of years. All in all, this little mission is to clean up my little mechanical pimples LOL

I get all my tranny gaskets from ATP. Ask your local parts store for ATP. There pans gaskets are the best in the world.

I definitely mean business on this. The wobbly pops are what likely caused those leaks to begin with. I basically quit drinking this New Years so stuff like this is an indicator of how things are changing for me.

No not this time. The stroker is truly a long term project. This time it's a 10:1 bullet that I plan on flogging at the strip. Checked all my bearings and they're perfect. I will have to take before and after pics of those heads though. When I first put that engine together, I thought I was using truck heads. I was wrong because when I pulled it apart the heads were E6SE's. The pistons are true flattops from FRPP. Makes me wonder what happened to my truck heads. Oh well, the ones that are going on are pretty damn good. I used some templates I had and they match my intake and exhaust, perfectly. I took out the thermactor bumps and cleaned up all the casting imperfections in every port. They are now comparable to a ported set of GT40's.

I put the new heads on it last night. I have a whole mess of new gaskets to go into it yet. I'll take some pics later on today. I'm still deciding what colour to paint it. I have high heat gold and a little Ford blue left. What do you guys think?

I got the engine all put back together last night. I took the valve covers to work with me today and polished them and clear coated them. Here are a few pics:

I'll put up a video soon. I still have to fix a leaky tranny and cooler lines. The bed has to come off and the new rear axle has to go in as does the BII fuel tank and new exhaust. I guess I have a ways to go before this project is done (for this year). Spring is coming I'd better get my ass in gear!

and me just playing with the crane

I think I'm going to raise the crane mount up about 8" to help the motor and trans clear the top of the header panel.

Hey Phil. Did you want that 8.8" of mine for her too?

Hey Phil. Did you want that 8.8" of mine for her too?

Sure, if you're throwing it in! Any idea what the ratio is? I have the rear out of Ami's Explorer, but I'd have to pull it out from under the truck. Does that rear end have 10" drums too? At any rate, I'll likely pull whichever of those rears apart and put in 3.73's or maybe 4.10's. The 306 has pretty good torque down low, so anything deeper than a 4.10 is only going to tear up tires. The way the "new" motor is built, that 7.5" is not going to last.

I got a little more done last night. I put the pass side header on and bent up some 5/16" steel line for my tranny cooler lines. I figure if they're one piece, then they won't leak. I think I spent as much in ATF as I did in gas last year. This year, leaks are the enemy and they must die LOL.

It won't be long now. Just gotta wait for a warmer day when i have someone here to man the remote while I get things done underneath (bolting in the mounts and trans mount). After that it's re plumbing a few little items and the electrical filling her with fluids then it's vroom vroom vroom! I'll video that one.

OK, WTF. You have a 3" ? stand-off for your mechanical fan on your water pump pulley, and I have about 2" between my waterpump pulley and my rad!! AND my rad is IN the core support!?!?!?!!!!! Not in the original location! I think I am missing something obvious....

PS: looking sweet

The mounts I used push the engine far back and very low in the engine bay. They are TransDapt 9536`s. I also modified my core support to the point that the lower portion is completely built by Pigpen Racing (my little company). It`s all built of stainless so it won`t rust out like the original did.
