I'm going to be installing a radio in the next few days that has a rear USB input. Needing to extend this into the center console or some other convenient location, I hadn't anticipated any trouble finding a panel mount connector and usb extension cable to go with it. However, this seems to be the only decent one available:

There are a few others that have screw in mounts that would get the job done but they'll never blend in well. $20 seems like a lot to spend for a generic 6' USB cable and a connector with a clip on it. Does anybody know where to get a similar assembly to this for a reasonable price? I'd go for just the connector body if it has a jack on the back that I can run a cable to.

Thanks!

are you searching for auto specific applications? because i know some computers use one of those inside them to get usb ports on the front of a case... maybe try amazon for computer applications that could possibly work?

The ones for computers have a 10 pin female plug that's connects to the motherboard. Would be of no use in a vehicle.

you're right there. but i have seen quite a few older computers(maybe 5 yrs old) that have a card inside with a usb port built into it, but then a regular usb extension is run from that card up to the front of the case.

I just ran the wire under my console and keep my thumbdrive plugged in under the seat. :D

That's probably how I'd do it in my own truck as well, but the project is a gift for my sister. Hoping to make it a little nicer and neater for her than what I'd accept in my own rig.

The radio I have has a USB cable on the rear so I just routed it into the glove compartment and mounted it on the side w/double sided tape. Better than a loose cable under the seat but maybe not still as nice as you want.
