I recently swaped out my 86 7.5 axle for a new 99 8.8 ranger axle. I want to do the 1 peice driveshaft swap aswell. Ive looked through the forums and in the tech secion but im still a little confused as to which shaft i need. My truck is a 86 ranger supercab 2wd manual so what will fit? Thanks

I'm not 100% sure on 2WD trucks, but I think you'd need to have a M5OD manual trans in yours for any of the later 1-piece shafts to fit (I think '86 came stock with a FM132 which may be shorter than a 2WD M5OD).

A good driveline shop can make you one however if the later shaft is too short (take the '98+ shaft in and have it retubed maybe).

Take some measurements and head to the jy.

^^^x2 that's what I plan in doing, go for aluminum as well.

You may want to stay away from the aluminum ones, ask kyle....

Ya the ears love to break off on him (iirc).

Cant you drill and tap the 3 inch flange to have the 2.5 inch flange holes?

Alright ill check which trans i have. also id rather upgrade the shaft to help with driveshaft angles when i upgrade rear suspension

can anyone identify my trans?

Ive never seen a tk-5 behind a 2.9.

I just saw this but what is in the bottom vent hole of the bellhousing (second picture)?

so will the slip joint of a 98-newer ranger fit in a tk-5?
