anyone run the 6.14 gears in 8.8

i find some 6.14 yukon ring pinion gears im just wondering if they any good or is that to low of gear i just want to know if anyone has run them with luck im sure they junk probly some as toyota 5.71 gears junk the teeth break off. im not buying it im just wanting to see what people think and have run them in there 8.8
 
never seen anybody with more the 4.88's. never knew they made them that high. to get anywhere near street driving, you will have to be running a 44" tire.

yukon gears are very nice, they wont break on you unless you fail at the install.
 
6.14s in an 8.8 axle?!?!? You must be on crack! The pinions gonna be so small it will actually be weaker than say 5.13s. What are you going to be doing with this truck? If I were you, swap in a stronger axle to be running massive tires (assuming massive since you want 6.14s)
 
broncograveyard has them less they dont make them no more i was not going to get them. i was just wondering cause thats low
 
8.8" gears are pretty stout, though I would agree, any tires of a size that would require such a ratio I think belong on a bigger axle than a 8.8". You can't get gears like that for any front axle smaller than a D60 anyway (FWIW, I recall they make up to 6.50:1 for a 9" too, which is basically the exact same scenario).

I'd also like to add that axles used in heavy trucks and equipment that run ratios that deep are usually a double reduction gearbox. That is they have two gearsets to maximize the strength of the gears and distribute the load better. For instance, my rockwells are 6.44:1. The upper gearset is 2.71:1, the lower is 2.37:1 both gearsets are huge and stupid strong.

Can I ask what you are basing this on?

Ive installed dozens of gear sets, from Yukon, to Ford Racing, Nitro, Genuine, you name it.

I have also seen all sorts break (not my installs), including LOTS OF YUKON.

Look at this poll on Pirate4x4, most people have broken Yukon gearsets.

Now I am a fan of Yukon gears, and the reason lots have been broken is because the great number of people run them. However, I just wanted to point out the fact that your post has NO credibility.

I find most people that run rediculously low gears like that are desert racers, where they need to 'pick-up' to get on top of the sand, but can't use a low range/doubler like a rock crawler. They make it work with high HP and low impact, aka.. not trail/rock wheeling.
