Wilson 1000 or 2000?

Finally going to bite the bullet and get this thing working. I've narrowed it down to two options:

The antenna will be mounted behind the cab on a toolbox.

The Wilson 1000,
Base mount, so the coil is under the roof :mad:
Removable coil base so i can use the car wash :D
No rear visibility problems :D
Won't block 3rd brake light :D
Signal will be partly blocked by cab :mad:

The Wilson 2000,
Mid Mount, 18" long 3/8" stand will put coil just over top of roof :D
Removability issues? :mad:
Shaft might block view, window seam does anyways? :icon_confused:
Will partially block out 3rd brake light :mad:
leverage might bend up my nice new tool box or damage something else? :mad::mad::mad:
Signal completely unobstructed by cab :D:D:D

Thoughts? Experiences?

I have experience with that set-up. Mine squeeled every time I keyed the Mic. I stuck it to the aft cab roof and it worked great, but trees tended to knock it over in the woods, which is where I primarily used it (hunt club)

I think this setup will squeel too. I don't think having the coil midway up is going to give you an unobstucted signal like you think it will. I ended up using a different Wilson, but I can't recall its model name/#. Smaller magnetic base and smaller coil, like the 1000, but half the height. It worked "ok" when stuck on the cab roof.

Well the 2000 seems like a normal Wilson just mounted on a post. The post doesn't do any of the transmitting or receiving.

I'm really not too keen on a roof mount of any type. Absolutely no holes are going to be drilled in my roof, nor do I feel like having a cable hanging around.

Have one on Deathtrap. Too stiff and I want something a little more slender for the highway driven Ranger.

Get the 2000, a 3/8" rod isn't going to obstruct your vision any more than a bar on a sliding rear window equipped pickup. It won't block the third brake light worth a crap either... the block would be negligible. Also, Shouldn't bend it. Just get a "heavy duty" stud for it... should be larger than a normal stud.
