Tranmission ID

I'm trying to find out what tranny is in my truck. The hard part is that it appears to have been swapped at some point. The door plate indicates that it is a Mazda M50D-R1 code M. However the vin number indicates that it is a 4x2 and not a 4x4 which it is. This leads me to believe that a swap of some kind has happened in the past. It's a 2.3 5sp 4x4 at this point and I need to know what the tranny is as I don't trust the door plate.

If it has a pan on the bottom, like an automatic would, it'll be an FM145/6
If there is no pan, it'll be the M5OD

And thats assuming you have a five speed

Thanks for the quick reply. It has a stamped pan on it. That would make it the Mitsubishi. Any one know how to tighten up the shifter in it. It has a lot of slop to it even in gear.

Replace the shifter.

And give the previous owner a few slaps, since he put a far inferior transmission into it than would have come from the factory.
