2.5l engine fan diagnosis

I've got a 99 Ranger 2.5l and i'm trying to figure out if the engine fan clutch is gone. when the engine is off, i can spin the fan by hand and it shows little resistance. when the engine is running and AC on, I stuck a plastic rod in the blades of the fan and it slowed down to a dead stop with me holding it in place. are either of these two scenarios normal? Thanks

The first part? I don't believe so, I've always been told that when spinning it by hand there should be a moderate amount of resistance.

the second part is not normal, especially if the engine is up to temp. As the engine get's hotter the viscous fluid in the fan clutch actually get's THICKER as it heats up, increasing the fan speed and pulling more air through.

I'd say it's dead.

I dont remember the temp while it was running,but i'll retest it at normal temp to make sure. ok thank for the help
