Why are there venturis on the air intake tube above the alternator on the 1994 3.0l ranger? Does this not restrict the amount of air going to the engine?

Off the top of my head I can think of an evap line and the PCV line that feed into the intake duct. There may be a sound resonator too, I can't remember. None of it restricts air flow to any significant degree.

I wouldn't exactly label that a "venturi". Splitting the air flow into two smaller runners will increase the final velocity at the plate, and off idle will give better fuel atomization. It's not a performance robbing restriction.

Thanks for the info, makes sense. Venturi= narrowing that increases velocity and drops the temperature - right?

there should be plastic intake silencers in there that look like they came from a sex shop. if they were venturi's theyd be wider towards the airbox and narrower at the throttle body so as the air gets constricted the speed increases giving better throttle response. thats sort of the exact opposite just 2 choke points that open back up letting the air slow back down.
