(Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) is recalling more than 20,000 Ranger compact pickup trucks and parts for other vehicles to fix a possible exterior lighting problem, according to safety regulators.

A possible faulty switch could cause the vehicles' turn signals, tail lights, hazard flashers and brake lights not to work, increasing the risk of a crash, according to information posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

About 20,450 Rangers pickups and about 6,265 service parts distributed to dealers for use in Rangers and other vehicles are part of the recall, according to NHTSA documents.

Affected in the recall are model year 2011 Rangers built from Jan. 25 through April 25, NHTSA said. Also included are parts for some 2004 through 2011 Rangers, 2002 through 2005 Excursion sport utility vehicles, and 2002 through 2007 medium and heavy-duty F-150 full-size pickups.

Dealers will replace the possibly defective switch at no cost and the recall is expected to begin on or about Aug. 15, according to NHTSA.
