My Daughters are dragging me kicking into the 21st century. I received a Shuffle from them and I am enjoying it. My 08 Ranger XL is pretty stark, it has the factory base sound system. Actually all I'm interested in is the most economical way that will allow me to play the music recorded on the Shuffle through my truck's sound system. I don't necessarily need a cd player but if that goes with whatever is recommended that's fine. Any suggestions. Thanks.

If sound quality is a concern, I would most definitely recommend getting a new stereo (head unit) with an Auxiliary or USB input. Alot of them can be had for less than $100 dollars, and installation kits are also cheap (around 20 bucks for the plastic insert and wire adapter) This will also give you better control options of your speakers (bass, treble, mid) and always have room to upgrade later!

Installation was easy in my 1998 Ranger, i'm sure its just as easy in yours! Otherwise there are plenty of car audio places that can install something like that if your not comfortable :icon_thumby:

Thats my opinion anyway, Good luck! :icon_cheers:

new headunit is the best way to go.. fm transmitters are not all that good...

there are ways to add an aux input on stock radio's but it costs as much as an aftermarket headunit.

i agree with the new head unit. i got a decent kenwood cd player with a remote for under $100, and it has an aux input for an mp3 player.

i would look for one with a usb input instead of just an aux port (looks like a headphone jack). the usb is much more versatile

i'm also going to side with the new head unit side. i have an original ipod mini (or something, i dont know what it is, i'm behind in technology too) and the fm transmitter sucks. it's a PITA the keep it tuned. my wife has an AV input built in to her car and that's what we use. we can even plug in the laptop and watch dvd's on long trips (with surround sound! we dont even have that in our living room) makes it much easier and you dont have to keep screwing with it.

Thanks all

I really appreciate all the opinions and suggestions. I am a creature of the eight track/cassette days and have completely gotten away from auto sound systems. Maybe the 21st century will not be too painful after all.

Unless you want to go this route.
