You guys were very helpful last week, now I can't figure out something else yet. 89 Crown Vic motor is in an 87 Ranger......my first project like this. So, got it cranking, got spark, pretty sure fuel is getting up there. We are using the Crown Vic engine harness, main harness and ECU. All the Crown Vic's relays, etc. So far the only real interface with the Ranger chassis harness is like power up to the ignition switch, fuel pump, neutral safety switch, etc.

So, today was the big day. Distributor has been out, engine got new bearings. We timed the distributor and gave her a try. Cranked over great but thats all it did. So we thought adjust it a little, then we got a few coughs. Well, maybe its 180 out- went through the drill again. My pals say 99% sure static timing is correct. But now it won't crank, good hot battery won't turn it just like when timing is bad off.

So..............has this got something to do with the advance/retard functions inside the computer? Am I overlooking some wire somewhere I got to plug in? Lord knows, I got plenty of wires left over. I'm back to studying old posts and wiring diagrams. Anyone has any clues, THANKS!!

Pull the spout connector (in the distributor TFI wiring) to stop it from advancing.

Put the timing light on it as you try to crank it.

Thanks Teddy I've seen something about that spout deal, I'll read up on it.

Bingo! Rechecked static timing. Pulled the spout connector. She started up and ran pretty good. Now we got a few sucking vacuum lines to deal with, and about 750 more wires to hook up. Thanks again!! I'll probably be back next week for some more.
