Have any of you had to replace the bushing that the 2 axle housings are hinged to each other on a 4wd?

Yea they're pressed in. Torch it out and chisel the metal sleeve out.
When I did mine, I used a hole saw and cut the rubber portion and sleeve out. Then I used a sawzall to cut through the outer sleeve then a chisel to get it out. Then I rigged up a plate and some all-thread and a nut to press the new bushing in (put it in the freezer for 2 hrs, and put some torch heat on to expand the sleeve housing on the beam).

What were the symptoms that told you it needed changed besides a klunking,or obvious wear. Mine looks good but I feel slop through the steering wheel going down the road and everything else seems good and snug.It'll go down the road ok then I hit a bump then it'll go left,hit another bump and it'll go right. Or it'll go right then left whichever it feels like. I have a new steering box too that I changed out while I replaced the lines while I was there.
That sounds alot like bumpsteer. Though it can be the axle bushings resulting in the wandering you speak of.

Yeah, I thought of bumpsteer. What causes it? My tires are nice and straight and don't wear funny.The wheel bearings are adj. correctly,my linkage is level within an inch of the axle bushing too, which I learned about on here. Thanks TRS No lift kit,all stock.
If you are stock than its not a bumpsteer issue.
Probably a radius arm bushing or a axle pivot bushing. Does it wander bad when you come to a hard stop?
A bad toe setting can do this too, or too little castor, have you had an alignment recently, or is the alignment still good?

I replaced the pass. side r.a. bushing a couple of years ago and the drivers side looks ok.I have a caster,camber ga. but I don't have any turning plates. The camber is 1/4 deg. + and the toe-in is 1/8".No unusual tire wear and it stops straight.I been playing with different caster settings but no change.
