The two engines at my disposal for the swap (which is starting July 31...) are...

1992 F150 engine (5.0 non HO, E7TE heads)
1988 cougar (5.0 non HO, pretty poor heads, low mile, old lady owned car few hard miles)

Would it be worth while to put the E7 heads on the cougar block and run them? Does anyone know if there are there any issues running E7 Heads with the non HO pistons (interference)?

What heads are on the cougar engine?
They are interchangeable. Would be a good idea to check PTV clearance.

I believe the non h.o. engines got e5 heads but not sure.

They should be E6SE. Not a very good performance head. The E7 would be better. Put them on and check the piston-to-valve clearance. IIRC there should be no problem.

Ford truck motors had similar specs of an HO though the heads suck....the Cougar was a dog..... Spend some money on aftermarket heads or just leave them alone...Need I say more?:headbang:

Take the F150 motor, swap the cougar oilpan onto it, swap the roller cam out for an HO or F4TE roller (aka the explorer cam) Or even go bigger with an aftermarket cam, and you'll have an HO motor. The Cougar motor has a roller cam, but it's the same one that's in the F150 motor. Both are sub .400 lift x short duration roller cams, same one used in the Crown Vic/Towncar/Marquis 5.0. I'd also swap the Cougar FEAD onto the F motor, it should be the short FEAD used on the 88-93 T-Bird and 94-95 Stang 5.0.
