I have a 1996 ranger super cab xlt 4x4 and the automatic transmission is going out and cost to much to get rebuilt has any one swaped in a 5 speed? if so can you give me any tips to avoid any head aches? its my daily drive and will be taking a long weekend to swap them out just need to know for things to watch out for?

so far i know i need to change the computer to a 5 speeds one and wire the nss to the reverse lights and install the clutch master cylinder as well as the pedal assembly. What i don't know is what year five speeds will bolt to the back of the 4.0 that i have now?

Anything will help and thanks

I didn't change computers on my 90, and it did fine. I think most M5OD's will work

Yeah, but your 90 wasn't an OBDII system. His will get pissed off.

Any year's 4.0 or 2.9 M5OD will work for you. From 90 on up to about..... carry the 1..... 2011.

They change a bit over the years, but in the end, they are all backwards compatible.
