I have been told that you cannot replace a 3.0 flex fuel with anything other than another 3.0 flexfuel. The vehicle mfg date is crucial too. Anyone know if this is correct? Also cannot find rebuild kits for this year, model, type. Please help.
possible, yes. legal, not sure. you may need to swap the computer to use the non-ffv motor.

you definitely need to swap the computer. you'd also have to get the complete fuel system from a non-FFV truck.
alternatively, you can yank any long block out of any '95+ ranger, and use your complete computer, fuel system, intake...the whole works.

the long block out of the flex fuel truck will bolt into your truck. just make sure you re-use all your electronics (injectors, sensors, harness, ect).
