I purchased an 87 ranger for my duaghter's first vehicle. She is helping me work on it as I have time. We finally got it running and on the road about a weeka and half ago. We ran into a small issue that I cannot figure out. I'm hoping someone can offer some advice on it.

We parked on a slight incline (front uphill). When we went to leave the trans would not go into reverse. When I got home and tried it on flat ground it went into gear just fine. I am at a loss of what is wrong and could use some help before I rebuild/ replace the trans.

Thanks.

Jon

i am assuming it is an auto not a stick, if that is the case when you park an auto on a hill you should always set the parking brake before letting go of brake pedal what this does is help keep the truck from settling on the parking pawl and making it real hard to get out of park as you have seen another option is to turn the frt wheels into curb and let the truck settle against the curb that should help any more questions im on almost every day

You picked a bad location to get a technical question answered. This is an Introduction forum and most technical people will not be looking at this thread.

BTW, Welcome to TRS.

If you do not get an answer here, you could also try http://www.network54.com/Forum/260730/. It is a Ford transmission forum and is more specialized in transmission problems.
