maybe soemone who knows something i dont i have a 1996 ford ranger with a 2.3 5 speed and i just replace the accumulator and the orfice tube today. i filled it up with r 134a and the compressor didnt kick on so i jumped it to get it to cycle the freon for a min well the lines never got cold the psi when compressor is on is 40 and when its off its bot 80 or so this is when i jump the compressor . when the compresor is runnig nothing is cold when i plug the pressure switch back in the compressor kicks on once and shuts off. what could this problem be could it be the compressor or the condensor ?

Did you pull the system into a deep vacuum before adding the refrigerant. If you just added refrigerant to a dead system dont run it very long you may burn up the compressor. Use the pressure that is in there to test for leaks. Remove the contaminated refrigerant and get a guage set and a vacuum pump. You need to pull it into a deep vacuume for at least 1/2 an hour before you add the refrigerant. refrigerant is sensitive to water and non combustable gasses and a single drop of water will destroy the compressor with the acid it produces. "Filled it up with R134a" (just how much IS that?) and the compressor won't kick on with the pressure switch connected, but the pressure is 80 with the compressor OFF.

That would be a bad pressure switch (compressor does run when you jumper the pressure switch connector pins confirms that).

The fact that it doesn't get cold could be too little or too much r134a. Really need to see what the high side pressure is to tell. Also depends how much you put in. You didn't mention "pulling a vacuum" on the system after replacing the parts. Did you happen to read this?

There really is a lot to air conditioning. Can't just replace parts and throw a can of refrigerant in it. I can only guess that your low pressure switch is bad, since the compressor runs with it jumpered.
