I'm planning on painting my truck later this month or early next month, time dependent.

The original paint is still decent except for a few spots that will need to be taken down to bare metal. I do not think I will need any body filler except for maybe the rear bottom corners on the box (depends on how I decide do it).

I bought this paint, Valspar restoration series tractor paint, Alykd enamel, low gloss black, along with the primer, hardener and thinner that goes with it.

It's a spray gun only type paint and it should be ideal for my plans.

I was advised to use degreaser and wax remover before and after scuffing the original paint with a red scotch brite pad. I saw a rustolem product at Wally world for 6.50 a quart, but was wonder if somthing like mineral spirits/lacquerthinner/simple green/purple power works?

I have asked about self etching primer and it is not looked favorably on by some of the people I've asked, I had thought to use it on the spots where I'd go down to bare metal, but was advised to either use just the Valspar primer or a two stage epoxy primer instead.

Whats the story on self etching primer? Good, bad or ugly?

I'm going to e-mail or call Valspar on it, but can you use the enamel hardener with the primer as well as paint?

Also, any tips on fiberglass?
I have a Lund visor I'll be painting, Is it the same as painting metal?
