Figured id start a thread before i really started building it.

It's a 1986 ranger regular cab, 2.3 manual 5-speed, manual T-case. It's pretty much stock besides the A/ts. I plan on building it into a mild prerunner. Here are some pics

don't waste the time of the 2.9

either go 2.3 turbo, or 4.0, or 302.

i need that dash stuff.. its a lot better looking than mine. well, i don't need your dash pad, b/c its cracked and covered lol. but yeah, the lower piece, the silver piece, the trim, the steering column stuff.. man its clean compared to mine lol.

Hey you know what..

if you want to go 2.9, then go 2.9 but I think at that point I would just go with the good ol 4.0. I think I would go with whats cheaper, has less miles on it. Ultimately though, I'd go for a 4.0 if you're going to swap.

As far as power goes...it's slow but reliable! I love the little 2.9's. However those 4.0's have a great reputation.

I wanna go 4.0 the only reason i was wondering about the 2.9 is because i could get a sweet deal on one. And as for my interior i have no idea how i've kept it this clean

Update. Scored this bumper off a rusted out yoda at the junkyard

Cleaned it up to look like this

Haven't gotten around to mounting it though. Finally a driveway posershot.

Good luck with your build! I can't wait to see where this goes. I'm building a crawler out of mine and I'm rebuilding my 2.9. Its a great little engine but if your going to do a fast prerunner id go 302.

Thanks! Good luck with yours too. And i've actually decided to just make it a trail rig so i can make good use of the 4x4.
