Hey everyone,

I just changed my transmission fluid a little while ago, and when I start my truck in the morning, and shift it into drive, the transmission will slip as I take off in first gear. It only does this for a few times and then it works fine. I added some of the Lucas Transmission addetive and that seemed to help. When I check the tranny fluid, after warmed up with engine running in park, the fluid level shows fine. There are no leaks at all. Not sure if I still need more fluid or not. Temp gauage reads between 180-195* on my transmission.

BTW its a 5R55E transmission. I never had this problem before I changed the fluid at all.

Thanks,
Keith

Umm, the 5R55E is an automatic transmission.

It has clutches (quite a few of them), but they aren't easy to check aside from a stall test.

Did you install the 2 o-rings on the filter ?? Have you checked the fluid level since ??

I don't think I ever did install the o-rings. I will check to see if I can find them.

If not do you know what the dimensions of them are?

Thanks,
Keith

i have a 98 Explorer and i lost overdrive. i rebuilt the valve body, installed a Superior shift improvement kit and a couple of Ford updates, and the tranny works like a champ now.

It turns out that Ford makes a new valve body spacer plate that goes between the trans and the valve body, and it needs to be installed with a new EPC blowoff valve on the VB. Some 5R55E transmissions already have this, but if you don't have it, it could help you out.

There is a way you could check without removing the valve body. You just have to remove the bracket that holds the 4 solenoids in and pull out the EPC solenoid (it's the biggest one there) and you can look inside the hole where the solenoid goes. If the valve is flat, then it doesn't have the upgrade, but if it has 6 little holes in it and a dimple (like a revolver), then it has the upgrade.

Well I did put the two gaskets back on and the transmission is all back to normal.
