Anyone shipped a dana 35 axle or other big item?

I am trying to sell another TRS member a Dana 35 axle assembly (everything that bolts to the beams, minus the radius arms and drop brackets). I would think I could make it fairly compact.

I would be shipping it from Denver CO to Texas.

I would like to know what has worked well for other members as far as shipping an axle or another similar large item???

Would I need to stick it on a pallet? Use a couple boxes?
Any ideas what shipping might cost?
etc

I don't want to spend an arm and a leg to ship it... to save the buyer and myself some money, but also want the freight carrier to be reliable. If you can help out in any way post up please. Thanks guys.

Call around to a few places... I shipped a t-case a few years back, but I don't remember how much it was. I think I used FedEx or UPS. I took an old pallet and built a crate out of it.

grab some 2x3's from lowes and build a crate for it

So just crate it up so that a forklift can move it and take it to UPS, FED-Ex, etc?

i dont know if UPS or FedEx would take it. it may require a trucking company. we use Conway for our business. They do a lot of LTL and we havent really had a problem with them damaging our products. Look around and see who can ship it for the cheapest.

Make sure that you use a sturdy pallet & good lumber to build the "crate" on the pallet. Wire down the axle in place (I used baling wire @ various lengths w/ fisheye ends & electric screwdriver).
Don't forget to print/paint "This End Up" on top.....
Any reliable trucking firm should transport it safely-

UPS and Fedex both have freight trucks

Greyhound will also ship items as long as they meet certain size/weight requirements for a surprisingly reasonable fee.

A good cheap method can be finding a member heading the same direction as the part needs to go. I got a complete 8.8" rear end with springs, shocks, and an extra set of springs that way before. But I had lucked out with timing on that one.

I shipped a corvair transaxle a few years ago from Ohio To Oregon. I made a crate out of plywood and 2x4s, made it so you could easily get a 2 wheeler under it. It cost $160 to ship via UPS. Just took it to the UPS store.

thats true. i dont deal with their larger freight stuff, just the stuff that has to be under 8' and 70 pounds.

i dont know what the cost would be for either UPS or a trucking company tho.
