Hey y'all. I'm in the market for a late-model 4X4 Ranger and wanted to read up some more on them. The only Ranger I've ever driven was about a '87 or '88 Ranger my dad bought new years ago. I'm driving around an '01 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor right now and the gas mileage isn't so great so I figure I might as well be driving a truck instead. I have a '01 F-150 (2WD) already and love the utility of it. I also have a sloped gravel driveway and want to buy a boat before long so that's my justification for the 4WD option on a truck. My F-150 spins the tires sometimes just driving up the driveway unloaded. I've owned a few vehicles over the year and every one of them (except one Honda Accord) has wound up getting "tweaked." I'm looking forward to putting a mild lift on the Ranger, some good tires, a winch, maybe an intake, cat-back exhaust, stuff like that. The only 4WD vehicle I've owned in the past was an old Jeep CJ-5 and a Bronco II. I replaced the factory hubs on the Jeep with a set of Warn manual locking hubs. One of the first things I want to look into is how the Ranger 4X4 system works as far as the hubs. Like if they're unlocked when you're in 2WD so that the front axles aren't spinning as you go down the road, etc, etc. And I don't even know yet if the Ranger 4WD system has a high/low setup on the transfer case. Notice I'm not actually asking these questions because I'm sure it's a no-no to ask questions that I can find the answers to by searching, but just in case someone wants to answer the questions that I'm not technically asking, that would be cool. :icon_cheers:

Hey got a four wheel drive Ranger myself, and IT has a low and high setting for the fourwheel drive, some may and some may not, and I'm pretty sure you probably have to back up so many feet after you take it out of four wheel drive if it's push button, that may differ depending on what type of transmission it has not sure.

Woot! Told ya I was gonna get one! Just picked it up today. 2004 XLT 4WD, auto, 4.0 V6, extended cab. SWEEEEEEET!
