read the tech library. said trans will mate. been told mounts will match.
anybody out there with experience in this situation.

3.0L has a different trans bolt pattern.

so i need a new trans? no way around replacing the trans?
how much would a used trans cost

$300-$700 probably.

I've had a 2.3, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0 and 4.0 in my RBVs... Why anyone would want to swap to the worst of the lot (3.0) I'll never know. For the expense of it, throw in a 4.0 or a 5.0. Otherwise leave what you have. The 2.3 can be hopped up to be a very mean little engine.

Yes, the bell patterns are different, but not THAT different. You will need stepped dowel pins and the top two holes into the block do not match up. Some elect to run with only 4 bolts, or you can fill in the bell housing and drill new bolt holes.

picked up this 3.0 because i thought it would match my trans it was available for $150. now i'm thinking of swapping a 95 2.3 or rebuilding the 91 2.3 and saving the 3.0 for another truck.

What would it take to swap in a 95 2.3 into my 91?
