Hi folks, I'm in need of some help.

First the basics. I have a 1994 4.0L Ranger OHV.

I would not call myself much of a car guy, but after the mechanic told me it would cost $500 to change my intake manifold gaskets, I figured I would try to do it myself. Long story short, after taking off the upper intake manifold I became intimidated by the magnitude of the job and figured that this was probably not a good first project. I'll be taking Old Faithful to my brother in law tomorrow to have him fix it.

Here's my dilemma. In the process I broke a vacuum hose, and before I can drive it to him, I need to replace it. Could anyone help me identify what part it is? I've attached a photo. The torn hose is just below the engine oil dipstick.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

DPFE sensor hose.. you can drive with it disconnected it will just cause a check engine light.

looks like there is enough hose to just stick it back on.

Thanks Brutus. I tried to stick it back on, but the remaining part of the hose was really stiff and would not budge. Maybe I just need to keep working at it. I'll give it a try.

One more question. Could I use regular vacuum hose to replace it, or is it a special material?

its supposed to be high temp silicone hose. you can take the piece of hose into a parts store and they'll give you the right size. sometimes you can get the actual hoses, but its cheaper to use bulk hose

i've seen fuel line and vacuum hose used, and they get as hard as a rock when you use them there.

here is a helpful write up on how to change the upper engine gaskets on the 4.0. the truck that I used for this is a 97, so there are a few differences in the upper intake, but everything from the fuel rail down should be pretty much the same, and you should be able to adjust the upper intake stuff to your aluminum intake. you will have to look up the torque specs for it as I am pretty sure they are different.

this is a tedious job but not too horrible if you take your time and label things.

hope this helps you or your brother in law. I think I shelled out about a 150 or so in parts when i did mine...
