Hey fellas. Been a long time since I posted here. Life get a hold of ya sometimes ya know. Ha ha
Anyway... I think I have it figured out, but I just wanted a few other opinions.
So about 20 minutes ago I was sitting in my truck at work, having a smoke, and noticed that my heater was blasting out cold air..... "Ummm" was my words exactly. So I looked at my engine temp, and it was pegged. I know if it was just my heater core, the engine temp wouldn't be effected. My first thought is the water pump, simply not circulating water.
Does this sound right? For the last few hundred miles, it has been making a sound (only when under load, like going up a hill) that sounds like a bearing going out, kind of a rattling sound. I'm almost positive this has something to do with it. What do ya think?
Thanks for reading. Any input/opinions will help.
Regards
-Denny

Have you pulled the belt off and checked the bearing by hand or stethoscope?

Nope, not yet. I'm still at work, and will be towing it home around 3 o'clock.

Sounds like it to me. Is it full of antifreeze? Might as well count on doing the WP and the thermostat this weekend.

The unusual thing, is it's not leaking water... I every case I've ever seen/had, water pumps leaked when they went out. Ever hear of one not leaking?

Mine didn't leak either, but the bearing was shot.

Well if it makes you feel good, I pulled my water pump off, rvt'd it and put it back together in like at most 1hr and 30min, so It dosnt take too longg
EDIT: realized this aint a ranger.....nvm

Yeah, I have a ton of things I have to take off to get to this bad boy, so I figure it'll be 2-4 hours under the hood, including replacing thermostat. Should be easy stuff. I just got back from a camping trip, so tomorrow it's go time! Thanks for the input!

Wasn't too bad, but the last month or two before I changed it, it seemed like a parabolic curve for noise production.

Yeah. I've seen it before.
The impeller blades get gunked up with crap and scale and it amounts to an apple on a stick spinning in the pump. It doesn't push and coolant around.
Usually happens when you don't change the coolant often enough.

Could be worse, I have to pull everything between the timing cover and the grille guard to change the one in my Ranger. :yahoo:
(grille, trans coolers, rad, alt, ps pump, wp pulley and finally water pump)
