I have a 91 ford ranger w/ rabs. I recently replaced the rear brake shoes, and when i did, the rear wheel cyls did not seem to be getting any pressure. i finally got pressure back there and found i had to replaced the rear brake hose because it wouldn't allow pressure to release after pedal was released. now when i push on the brakes, they are hard at first, slowly get softer, but if I pump them they work ok. I also noticed if i hit the brakes hard the rears go into abs operation really easily. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure that you wheel cylinders are not siezed up-very common and missed when doing brakes. I have seen all kinds of wierd symptoms from this. The abs thing may be a result of improper rear brake adjustment(too loose). Check the wheel cylinders first. Depress all 4 pistons with a flat screwdriver...They should move freely. Once you have verified that all cylinders are good, there is no air in the system, and there are no external leaks, then suspect a bad master cylinder if the pedal fade symptom is still there. Industry standard is to diagnose and repair all service brake problems before trying to diagnose any ABS issues. Josh
