well got a 2000 ranger 4.0L... just last night on my way home it started stalling out at every light, and was idling well below 1000rpm.. any ideas? and another problem is the 4x4, when i put it in 4hi the gauge says im in 4hi but only the back tires spin...now i dont know what thatmeans but its probably not good

the members are gonna need to know any Trouble Codes/etc. to help you figure it out.....

Idle is computer controlled using the IAC (intake air controller).

Many times, a simple removal (2 8mm bolts) and cleaning is all it needs.

I've used all sorts of solvents for this cleaning, but many use carb/choke cleaner.
I usually use SeaFoam liquid and a rifle bore brush myself.

The 4WD problem could be your PVH (pulse vacuum hubs). After mid-2000, Ford abandoned that system and used live-axle (same setup as a front wheel drive CV shaft installation).

If you pull your wheel lugnut cover off and see a large nut, you do not have PVH. In that case, suspect your transfer case.

If you do have the PVH, read this: http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Apr04/offroad.htm
