Wiring Guru Needed...

My 89 BII continues to blow the brake light fuse... and there are times it'll blow the fuse for the left blinker also. But I think it's only blowing the blinker fuse if the brakes are pressed. So it seems that it's all a brake wiring issue. So, the question of the day is, does the brake wire from the pedal switch run over the gas tank? :icon_confused: Might I have squished it when I put the tank back in? I'm not sure but I think that's about when my problems started. It may come to me running a wire from the front to the back and seeing what happens...


Btw.... I'm running a special on blown 15 amp fuses... I'm getting quite the collection..
 
You have a short in the system. Bad ground at the light socket possibly. The wiring may go over the fuel tank but it should be wrapped and squishing it isnt likely. Start tracing the wiring from the brake pedal to the tail light. Check the brake pressure switch connections and keep tracing wires . It is a long task but necessary and you will find it.
 
Power coming out of the brake light switch goes to the turn signal switch then, to the tail light housings. Each turn signal wire does double duty a brake light as well. I would say it is probably the left turn signal wire shorted either behind the gas tank or some cobbled trailer light wiring.
 
I re-did the wires where the trailer wiring was tapped in by the PO and still was popping fuses when the brake was hit.. I'll have to take it to work where I can get under it better..
 
HELP what ever did you find my 87 has started doing the samething however it only blows the brake light fuse as soon as you put your foot on it. i amin the steps of striping the wire about to go under the truck now :yahoo:
 
I ended up redoing all the wires and eliminated the connector on the left side. It was corroded and that was probably part of the problem. Fixing the wiring fixed the fuse popping and the rear abs light that was on.
 
Try this to find the problem wire before you go nuts....

Use a multimeter. Unhook battery. Probe for continuity between power wires and the chassis. When you get a circuit, you found the bad wire.
 
hey i found the problem the warning flasher was grounded out inside its self the last thing i checked thanx for all your help guys
