Can anyone here recommend a machine shop around Peoria to have some heads magnafluxed and cleaned? And what process could be done to clean the heads. What does it mean to have a head shot peened and also "bead ports and chambers"? Thanks alot.

I live 40-50 minutes south in Lincoln. We have Ritchharts here. They do a really good job, and are very inexpensive. I had my 2.3 head hot tanked, magnafluxed, painted, (I bought the seals and bearings)installed the cam bearings, valve seat seals, and cam seal for $45. Had it done in a day. :D

there was a thread posted about this on a local forum I frequent. here's what they came up with:

Mullvain Motorsports Inc
132 Dolans Ln, East Peoria, IL 61611
(309) 694-5007

Ritchhart Sales
307 N Chicago St
Lincoln, IL 62656
217-732-2187

Jon Carls at JDC Engineering

Automotive Machine in Pekin

as well as Kalina's like John said

I'd call around and ask pricing etc. just remember you get what you pay for-or you pay for what you get ha

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will call a few places this week. John, have you been pleased with Kalina's work/prices?

Yes and no. The last thing that I recall picking up from there was a set of Chevy Vortec heads, that was three years ago at least. I haven't really put much time into engines in the last few years. I've done a lot of machining myself, but still wont trust myself to try to do my own work on heads and blocks.

A buddy back in HS had some work done by Mullvain, they overcharged him for what little work they did. On the other hand, they pressed a set of wrist pins for another buddy and he was satisfied. I think its kind of give and take. Go in there being knowledgable but not a pompous prick and you'll probably be treated fairly.
