Hey All...

Thinking about getting Pokey painted. I'm almost sick to death of a previous owner's application of spray-can Rustoleum flat white. I want to get her painted in the original Crystal Blue Metallic.

I got a quote at Maaco that seems pretty reasonable... just a tad under $600.
What do y'all think? Is this decent or could I do better? Mind you, I'm not looking for a concours paint job, just something that's not flat white and I could spend a quiet Saturday, under a shade tree waxing! :D

Thanks,

Amanda

If you value the way your truck looks, don't touch Maaco with a 10-foot pole.
If you value not having to repaint in 6 months to a year, don't touch Maaco with a 10-foot pole.
If you've never once Googled Maaco to find out if they're a good company to use, you might deserve to learn the hard way.

You're more or less getting what you pay for. They don't prep properly. They don't paint properly. They don't seem to care about overspray. The paint tends to chip off within months.

I've heard that if you do the body work yourself the macco paint jobs do not turn out as bad.

It's really hard to say. I'm a firm believer that if you want something done right, you'll most likely have to do it yourself (granted that you know what you are doing)

Honestly, if I spend all the work prepping it myself, like hell am I gonna run the risk of having someone like Maaco ruin my hard work. I'd just as soon take it to a real body shop or finish it myself.

I know a few body shops here that do top notch work that that's where I'd pay to get it done. The amount of BAD jobs Maaco has done. I wouldn't even risk it.

OP- Talk to friends or someone in your area, maybe a Ford dealership? Maybe a local parts store? Maybe join a local board.. There are probably plenty of quality shops that won't rape you on pricing.. You just have to get to them by word-of-mouth. Most everyone till tell you though that Maaco isn't worth it.

If you can't afford to do it right once, you won't be able to afford to do it any better the second time.

I would rock the flat white until I could afford to do it right.
