Hello. My boyfriend needs to know what holds the axle shafts to the rear axle housing. He's trying to take it apart as I type this but he can't seem to find out how. I've been looking for diagrams and can't find one anywhere. We could really use your help.

if its the full removable third member as in a 9", in which case u would unbolt the hub assembly from each side via the 4 bolts on the back of the drum assembly and that will pull the axles out of the center section

that or c-clips in the diff

Yes it's a 9". Thank you. I told him and he said that's what he needed to know. We'll see what happens.

I just told him about c-clips too just in case. Thanks

9" doesnt use c-clips so its non important, unless the rear was swapped to a different ford rearend

Yeah, on the 9" just remove the 4 bolts on each side and slide the shafts out.
