Im building a Tire Carrier like the "Tire Gate" the only problem that Im having i with the angles that the pipe is bent.

Im just wanting to see how much the people bent the pipe when you guys made your own? Im talking about the lone pipe that makes the top of the gate that has 2 bends up towards the top front of the carrier.

Thanks!

pictures... i have no idea what you're talking about...

i'm sure it will be a standard angle, and with a quick look at a pic, someone could tell you easily

I dont have any pictures..I was wanting to figure the angle out before I started to bend the pipe..It is the top piece of pipe in the 5th picture shown in the tread...Its the soild piece that has two bends that sits above the tire and looks like a "C" rotated on its side. It is bent to form the top part then goes all the way to attach to the base..

There's no set angle to what it is, due to your degree of lean, and height... Draw up some blueprints, and use Pythagoras to figure out the main angle (based on a full triangle, and one corner at the top) then divide by 2 to give you the compound angles

just make it as you go, none of my stuff has blue prints because its all original from my head, i just had to take a few crucial measurements and the rest gets eyeballed.

Look like the best plan is to just start bending a little at a time until everything matches up and looks even. Would you start with one side and bend it until the top portion is parallel with the bottom, then bend the other side until it connects with the the vertical base attached to the truck...

if you have a piece of cardboard as wide as the tailgate then you can lay out a template on it and then use it to make sure your bends are equal (kind of like i did in this pic). thats what i did when i made my skid plate brace, it wasnt a uniform shape so trying to get it right the first time by eyeballing it was almost impossible.

Whenever I'm bending a hoop or anything like that I draw it all out on the floor of my shop first with my starts and stops of all my bends before I start bending any tube.
