Clear Gearzcovers are made of Polycarbonate and surrounded by a PPG Near Chrome Powder Coated Steel Ring. This combination adds up to extreme high strength, good looks and uniqueness. Clear Gearz allows you to monitor oil levels, gear wear and the presence of moisture. Clear Gearz have been extensively tested and proven to be as strong if not stronger than any other cover currently made.

Yeah right. But oh so tempting!

NOT!
Saw this while browsing google for diff covers.

thats pretty cool

Hmmmm...just over $200 to watch the gears go round...but, then again, you'd have to have a camera or be dragged behind the truck to actually see anything...

Nah, I'd rather invest the money in a glass bottom cab...that way I can watch the fish swim under the truck while I'm driving up a river bed...:)

Not really, once moving the diff being "splash lubricated" will coat the cover in usually dark gear oil so you couldn't see a thing anyway.

Zman had one, I think it cracked on him. FYI his is a 2wd street truck so they must not be too tough.

I recall years and years ago, one could purchase "see-through" valve covers....I think there were red, blue and clear ones. You'd have to keep your oil extremely clean, too.

polycarbonate? yeah i would like to upgrade the strength of my steel cover not downgrade

I just tried ordering one of these for my new 8.8", they said they didn't make them anymore.

The site I ordered from had them on clearance for $75, but they were sold out. Not too sure if I can justify the $200 price tag from these sites though.

The whole point of seeing through it is so that you don't have to pull your diff cover everytime you want to do a check up on your diff oil, just just crawl under and look. Not to watch it go round and round

And yes, if you need a high strength diff cover it isn't for you. It IS plastic after all, I'm not sure how people compare it to a welded up plate steel one and also think that everybody needs one. FYI, polycarbonate is the stuff they make bullet proof glass out of, with enough material it IS pretty strong.

The diff cover on my 7.5" is rusted so thin you can almost put your finger through it, and it doesn't leak only because of the thick film of RTV I smeared all over the inside of the cover. It's been fine for thousands of miles.

Bring on the hate, I think they're cool.

Sure they are not as tough as a true offroad diff cover but on the other hand my stock 8.8 cover is composite so the benchmark isn't set very high.

ruffstuff diff covers cost how much? i mean come on.. clear for cool factor or ruffstuff for, well, ruff-ness factor.. hm... mall crawler or real truck!

I have a friend with one of these on his truck, it's pretty bad ass and strong as hell believe it or not.

If you run synthetic it doesn't fog up as much, since regular gear oil is alot darker.

now i saw a truck at a show one time that had the clear valve covers and clear heater core hoses. it was clear hard hoses on all the coolant. it was cool.. he cranked it and you could see all the fluids flowing..

i wouldnt mind one for my 44 and then make a cage type cover to go over it. i think that would be a pretty slick setup, especially for deep mud which is what im building my truck for. it would be nice to know if i get mud or water in there.

i would get one if they werent 200 bucks *shrugs* ill just build my own steel one.

they seem neat from the stand point of easy level check/water in oil check. but awfully expensive for a plastic cover. imagine if some wise-ass neigbor kid knew you had one and shot it with a pellet gun, i could imagine the little bastards around here doing that.

I think a small strip window like you see on oil bottles would be great on a heavy duty cover. Just for checking the status of your oil and seeing if there's any water.
