The stock grille should slide out in my '01 XLT? I unscrew the plastic pieces at the front of the engine compartment under the hood correct ?

On my 99, there are clips at the bottom as well. Not sure if the 01 is the same

you have to unscrew those top pieces and there should be a few clips running along the bottom of it on the inside you have to pop those out. they are metal pieces that the grill surrounding is fit into and they pop into the header panel. you'll see what I mean when you look at it, it's hard to explain but you will take off the front that way and the stock grill will pop out of that piece but you'll see that clear as day when you take it off

there should be 9 retaining tabs for the grille.
