I have a 89 ranger, its in the process of getting a carb'd 302. Will my lights and things work if i take out the wiring harness that runs from the computer to the motor and to the power dist box? Also, when I hook up my msd ignition what wire does the red "switched 12 volts"(comes out of msd box) get hooked to in the wiring harness, is it Red/LtGreen

Run a relay for that switched lead. Find a circuit that goes "hot in run" and use it for the signal lead for the relay.

You will be able to remove all the engine related electionics, including the computer and harness. Red w/ green is power in run so you can use that as a source for your MSD. Yes a relay would be a good idea for that to be sure you are getting maximum power to the MSD instead of sharing it with a different circuit.

^^where exactly under the hood is Red w/green? Is there one on the factory coil plug?

It's a 10 ga wire that comes throught the firewall just below the master cylinder (that's where it was on mine anyway). It's wrapped in with about 30 other wires but it's the only large gauge red/green that's there.

thanks.....where is it running to? can I just cut it or do I just splice into it??

What are your trying to splice into it? It comes from the steering column ignition switch then will go to everything that needs to be hot in run, such as the ignition.

I am trying to determine where the red and white needs to be wired to on the duraspark ignition.......
