I have 88 High Rider 4x4 2.9 w mitsubishi F146 5 speed manual tranny. The tranny needs to be replaced and I have heard that the Mazda tranny was better. Is Mazda tranny really better and can I really use this in place of the mitsubishi?

Yes and Yes.

Use the search, lots of people have swapped both other 5-speeds and automatics for the Mazda 5-speed tranny, very popular mod.
