When I first crank my '93 ranger early in the morning, it will go up to about 45 mph in Drive then won't shift. If I put it in '2' it will shift just fine, then i'll put it back in Drive after it's warmed up. Has anyone else had this issue?

Valve body issue, or something related to its fluids?

Cami, how many miles are on it and when was the last time your tranny saw a full transmission flush?

I'm not an auto expert, hopefully someone can chime in. Oh, and welcome to TRS!

I've actually only had it for a little over a week. I changed the Transmission fluid last week. Another problem I'm having is the durn gas gauge is broken!

Yeah, it was doing it before the fluid change. I changed the filter as well as the fluid. I don't remember what type of fluid was put in..

Sounds like a sticky solenoid. Either you aren't getting OD, or you aren't getting lock up. Hard to say without actually looking at it with a scanner.

Will there really be any long-term effects? It only does it in when I'm in Drive, going around 45-50. If i'm in 2nd it runs fine until it's warmed up and then i'll shift it into Drive.

Wait.... it starts working fine once warm?

Is the fluid level correct?

Yeah, and I had a mechanic check all the fluid levels he said they're fine.
