Drive like a grandma. Seriously. Keep it maintained. A tonneau cover may help. Run real gas in it. Don't carry alot of unnecessary crap around, keep your tires inflated to the proper psi. Maybe even run an e-fan if your truck doesn't come with one.

A cat-back exhaust will help a little. A 4-banger stick Ranger is already getting about as good mpg as it's going to get.

Use only pure regular gasoline, no E10 fuels. That only can make a 5% difference. Make sure the O2 sensor is working properly. Clean the MAF sensor with a MAF cleaner. Make sure the spark plugs are within spec. Brake easy, coast often when slowing down, and be light on the throttle. Airing up the tires is another way to increase MPG, but gives a stiffer ride and can cause premature wear on the tires itself (wears down the center of tread, instead of a even wear across the tread). Remove any extra weight from the vehicle (junk, trash, too many extra tools). In the extreme weight removal, this can include the passenger seat, spare tire, and keeping the gas tank only up to half full instead of full.
