My haynes says the 88 uses two pumps, and the 89 only one. So therefore the 88 pump in the tank is low pressure, and useless for an 89?
Thanks.

If there is a pump on the driver side frame rail, then it has two pumps. The one in the tank is low pressure, feeding the one on the rail to produce high pressure.

If there is no pump on the frame rail, then the only one is in the tank and is high pressure.

I don't "trust" the Haynes manual, but a quick look underneath will prove whether Haynes info is correct about pump configurations or not. If the Haynes info is correct, then Yes, the 88 pump is low pressure and useless to fix the 89.
