Okay, I am making a bull bar/ front push bar for my 1993 ranger.

Yes I know I can adapt one to fit my Ranger, but I just dont want to!

My plan is for something that mounts to the front of the frame, either by bolts or welded on, preferably bolts.

I would like it to be rigid enough to have tow hooks welded onto it because my ranger has no good place to mount tow hooks. I also want to be able to mount lights onto it, but thats the easy part.

I drew up a quick sketch of what I was thinking about doing:

It will be 3" OD SQUARE TUBING. I dont have a pipe bender or notcher.

What do you all think? And how is the best/strongest way to mount it?

Thanks

Personally, I would prefer round tube, but square works, I guess. Make up a mounting bracket that mates to the holes on the frame, then weld the bracket to the back of the push bar, and then mount it all together. I'm assuming you want a push bar and bumper and not a replacement bumper that has a push bar?

Yeah thats correct, I want to keep my bumper and make this bull bar. I would perfer round tube as well, i think it looks much nicer, but i just dont have the ability to do what I want with it. Square tube is just much easier to work with and CAN be made to look nice.

Yeah I agree. I do think the best way would be to take the bumper off, make a mounting plate that matching the bolt holes on the bumpers mounting surface, and then make an identical heavier duty one, then weld it to your completed push bar.

You can buy a claean used one for $30 (black or stainless) and a new one for $75 with brackets included on Ebay. Besides...they just catch the ground anyway since they are low to begin with.

Thanks for the input. I understand that I could buy a bull bar for less, but I am doing this project for a metals class.

I made this up for my 06 Wrangler but might just cut off the bottom mounts and wlkd on some angled mounts use it on my Ranger. Just got to plan to get motivated!!!

My credo
Fortune Favors the Brave
if u dont want the brackets to sit lower than the valance and decreaing your clearance u could do like i did on mine. check my build thread for pics of how i reinstalled my brushguard.
dont pay attention to the pics in the earlier pages, the new mounts are on the last pages.
