i have a 2002 ranger with the 4.0L SOHC engine and would like to swap for a 1997 4.0L OHV engine, what problems or issues will i run into as far as harnesses or mounting issues?

isn't the SOHC the better of the two? Why would you want to downgrade like that?

If I remember right the OHV is a tad more reliable and probably more readily available and less expensive.

But I still have to ask the same question, why not just replace it with another SOHC if it broke?

Not any more. 4.0 SOHC's been in production a long time in almost every Explorer, Sport Trac, and 4x4 Ranger there is. 4.0 OHV hasn't been made for 10 years now.

Two problems I see. The '02 computer would be totally unworkable with the 4.0 OHV. You cannot easily switch over to the '97 computer because the '02 uses a PATS ignition key. Also 40 less hp. Make that three problems.
