So I know the 3.0L likes to be ran at higher RPMS, and it gets better gas mileage in the 3000ish range. So would it make sense, instead of putting it in drive (auto tranny), just put it into 2nd, and have it run at higher RPMS while driving in town? That way I'm running around 3000 while holding 35-40, instead of 1500-2000? What do you guys think? Would this be bad for anything? Thanks

It's harder to control the engines rpm's with an auto. It's best to have a 5spd. Around town, unless you are on a road without many stops, just leaving it out of O.D. will be fine, in town is stop and go, stop and go. This will make getting better gas mileage hard, acceleration is the hardest on mileage. The high rpm's are best for highway though. Or you could just make it easy and get a 5spd or shift kit for the auto. LOL

Becareful with putting it in 2nd gear. Some of the transmissions will not shift out of it. It will start in 2nd gear and burn up your tranny. It is better to do what ranger44 said and just have it in drive instead of O/D

I get my best milage between 2500 and 2700 rpms. I have a 5spd. when i stay around 3k, my milage does drop a little bit, but nothing serious.
