I've got a 93 Ranger 4.0/5 spd that leaks clutch fluid. I add to the reservoir once every week or two. I'm pretty sure its the slave cylinder as the reservoir/master cylinder look dry/clean. I plan on pulling the tranny this spring and checking it out, but have one question. How is the line attached to the master cylinder & slave cylinder? I read somewhere that the line needs to be replaced and is not re-usable? I can't believe thats the case and was hoping that someone can shed some light on the topic. Thanks...

The line come out of the slave in th etranny easily and is reuseable. If your look at where it connects into the tranny, there is a small white plastic circlular clip, you push that towards the tranny into the housing that the line goes into and pull out on the line. There is a special tool for this, or you can use two small flathead screwdrivers.

Looks simple enough, good pic's...One other question, it says that I HAVE to take the master cylinder out / disconnect it from clutch pedal or risk damage to it if the clutch pedal moves when the line is unhooked. Is this true, or am I misunderstanding the directions? I think that as long as the clutch doesn't move it shouldn't hurt anything.

If the clutch can be pushed in when the line is unhooked, it is likely you've got some air in the master, which will need to be bench bled, or it's on it's way out. You unbolt it, two 10 mm bolts on the engine compartment side and the master cyl. rod clips on the pedal with a black or grey round clip, don't break it taking it off! The master comes out into the engine compartment, it's a PITA!

Be careful removing that quick release on the slave. I here its not to cheap to replace. And if you do work on this thing you might just replace the slave if you havent already. They tend to go out right when its a bad time for you.
