I've been thinking about changing my cluster lights to blue leds in my 05 ranger, since the head unit I have is blue. Would the blue leds show through or would i have to take the faces off and remove the film on the reverse side?

STRONG and bright LED lights will show through as blue with a very slight green tint. Removing the green from the back will get better results.

The cool thing about LED is that they only produce a specific wavelength (color) of light. This means there is very little color tint (if the color is strong, like blue) seen from colored films like the green on the back side of the cluster. If the color is weak, like yellow or orange, the color film does affect the final light color.

I would put the lights in and check the color to see if you think it is acceptable before you scrape the green tint off.

Mine came out fine and I didn't remove the tint

awesome, where can i get them and find out the sizes i need?

IIm thinkin theyr 194's, at least thts wht I used on my truck. Got them at superbrightleds.com, I used the miniature wedge base WLED-x5's

yeah it looks like thats the size everyone has, any hot spots with those bulbs? got any pics? now i just need to find out how many to get since the newer cluster is different then the ones ive seen everyone do -_-

I bought mine on ebay and work great for both the ranger and the cherokee. They took a while to ship but were cheap and worth the wait.

Cluster Lights

this is with the original cluster and LEDs off of ebay, I had a problem with the LEDs burning out (I think it might deal with the fact that they don't need as much power). The hot spot that's on the 45 isn't even noticeable when you're driving.

Cluster Lights

new cluster during the day, still have a problem with the one on the left though.

looks good, i think im going to order like 10 bulbs to be safe and ill do the hvac controls too since i heard they are the same for my truck, what color blue did you get and i guess you used the wider angle?

10 should be good. I think that's how many I got when I got my first set, it covered my cluster, HVAC, ashtray, glove box and dome light (can you tell I like blue?lol) the color is just blue and with the WLED-x5's I think the angle is like 220 degrees

ok sweet im ordering them tonight and ill post some pics as soon as im done

how do you do this?? just remove old leds and replace?

yeah thats how all the other guys have done it, ill put some detailed instructions of what i do if it will help you
