Couple swap questions?

I have read all the tech pages but the exact info im looking for was not very clear, my 89 2.9 is in sad shape and i have a 97 exploder donor.
Can the 97 4.0 be swapped into my ranger without running into major issues?
the thread only specified late and early model and im not too firmiliar with it, i know i need the engine, wiring harness, ecm, y pipe and minifolds but will i have to swap my dash for this year of 4.0?

you will more then likely have issues with the wiring and emissions. Since your truck still has OBDI and the explorer has OBDII. Also be sure its not a SOHC engine, the OHV motor will work without new drive train parts but again I think the wiring and emission stuff will be a problem (not impossible but more work for sure.)

its alot of work to swap an obdII motor into an obdI truck properly... alot of wiring and electrical... be sure its what you want to do before you start... a guy i know did it on a broncoII and it took 40+ plus hours on just wiring the electrical to make everything work properly... it's a really neat project but very very involved...

Thanks for the info guys, I dont think im going to do the swap untill i can find a earlier donor. Im having major problems with my 2.9 right now and it's my DD so i just need to get er back on the road.
